"Three Renowned Indian Universities Invite IAIN Lhokseumawe Lecturer as Keynote Speaker
EDSA - In an effort to strengthen the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education collaboration at the international level, Dr. Nurul Fadhillah, M.Hum., who serves as a lecturer as well as the Secretary of the English Tadris Study Program at the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teaching Science (FTIK) IAIN Lhokseumawe, was invited as a keynote speaker in an International Conference held at three well-known universities in India on November 11, 13, and 14, 2024.
Dr. Nurul's journey began at Ernad Muslim Education Association (EMEA) College Kondotty, Mallapuram, Kerala, India. In this event, he presented a topic titled “Teaching and Learning English: Current Global Perspectives”, sharing the stage with Dr. Fahim Korasen Kandi from Shaqra University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. According to him, the conference organized by EMEA College, the majority of whose lecturers and students are Muslim, provides a space for international collaboration, including with Islamic institutions such as IAIN Lhokseumawe. He also mentioned that this collaboration is often established through good relations with Lt. Abdul Rasheed, the former head of EMEA College.
On the second day, Dr. Nurul was the keynote speaker at Christ College (Autonomous) Irinjalakuda, Thrissur, Kerala. The English Language Education conference brought her together with renowned speakers such as Prof. Dr. Latha Nair R. from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and Dr. Anupama P from K.S.M.D.B.C Sasthamcotta. On this occasion, Dr. Nurul delivered a presentation entitled "ELT Reimagined: Overcoming Challenges, Unlocking Potential". She explained that Christ College and IAIN Lhokseumawe had previously collaborated through an online conference facilitated by IES2C (Indonesian Education Share to Care), an international association of academics.
On the last day, Dr. Nurul attended a conference at Assumption College, Changanassery, and delivered a presentation titled "English Language Education in the 21st Century: Overcoming Challenges, Embracing Opportunities". In this session, she again discussed with Dr. K.J. Varghese from Christ College and Dr. Smita Joseph from Hyderabad University. The last two campuses that invited him are institutions under the auspices of Christian foundations.
Dr. Nurul emphasized that this collaboration reflects religious moderation through academic interaction between Islamic and Christian institutions. Education is a means to build mutual contributions regardless of religious and cultural differences.
Full support from the Head of the English Department, Dr. Zurriyati, M.Hum., as well as the Dean of FTIK, Dr. Jumat Barus, M.S., contributed to Dr. Nurul's success as a keynote speaker. Dr. Jumat Barus said that this participation strengthens IAIN Lhokseumawe's role in the international arena and expands the global network in the field of English education. He also hopes that the professional competence of lecturers and students will continue to develop, especially ahead of the transformation of IAIN Lhokseumawe into UIN Sultanah Nahrasiyah Lhokseumawe.
